Jef Feyaerts combines more than ten years of specialisation in construction law with a direct and personal approach. He first seeks to understand what is genuinely at stake for the client: legally, commercially and operationally. From that context, he assesses the position, clarifies the risks and opportunities and helps determine the most sensible next step.
Not every problem calls for the same approach. Sometimes a focused analysis, advice or negotiation is enough. In other matters, court proceedings, mediation or arbitration are required. Those tools are not an end in themselves. Jef uses them when they fit the client’s position and contribute to the desired result.
A good strategy starts not only from what is legally possible, but from what the client needs.
Experience
More than ten years in construction law.
Jef has been a lawyer since 2016 and has specialised in private construction law from the beginning of his career. Before founding Feyaerts Law, he spent ten years at Schoups, later Scale, where he advised clients on construction disputes, complex contract negotiations and projects of widely varying scale.
His experience includes court proceedings, mediation and arbitration, as well as the preparation and negotiation of construction contracts and the legal support of ongoing projects. He has worked not only from the law firm, but also in-house with clients and directly on projects and construction sites.
That experience shapes the way he approaches legal issues. A construction matter rarely consists of legal questions alone. Technical issues, planning, commercial relationships and the continued execution of the project often matter just as much. Good legal advice must understand those elements and connect them.

Approach
Clarity when things become difficult.
Clients often turn to a lawyer when the situation is unclear. A dispute has arisen, an important decision must be made or different risks need to be weighed against one another.
Jef starts by listening and understanding what matters most to the client. He then carries out a thorough analysis of the facts, the contract, the evidential position and the possible scenarios. The client is not only told what is legally possible and what the likely consequences of the different choices are. Jef also indicates which option he considers most appropriate in light of the objectives, risks and practical context, and then helps implement that decision.
The client knows its business, project and commercial context. Jef brings the legal expertise and strategic perspective. By combining that knowledge, an approach emerges that is not only legally defensible, but also fits the reality in which the decision has to be implemented.
The objective is not to turn every uncertainty into a legal problem. It is to provide enough clarity to make the right decision at the right time.

An independent practice, built deliberately.
After ten years within a specialised law firm, Jef chose to found Feyaerts Law.
The decision to build an independent practice stems from the desire to create something around the way he wants to organise legal services himself: directly, with agility and with the freedom to adapt the approach to what a client or project genuinely needs.
That means short lines of communication and direct involvement, but above all taking responsibility for the service from beginning to end. The way of working should adapt to what the matter and the client need, not the other way around.
For Jef, working independently therefore means above all having the freedom to choose the level of involvement, intensity and approach that make the most sense for each matter.

Knowledge sharing

Jef regularly publishes and lectures on construction law. Those activities keep him closely engaged with developments in the field and at the same time inform his day-to-day practice.
Whether the matter calls for focused advice, intensive project support or a dispute requiring a formal process, the principle remains the same: first understand what matters, then sharpen the position and act with purpose.
